Interesting thread.
The first thing to look at is the decoder chip in any player - these days I believe (but may be mistaken) that most of them can decode everything as they are all "off the shelf" chips these days, merely requiring the functionality to be enabled in the firmware.
Next up is the filtering at the DAC stage - again with most this also is all off the shelf, but the higher end players generally add custom filters to smooth the output.
A good coder ought to be able to do this, but it would certainly invalidate any warranty |
